Charlie, as you well know, started his shooting sports projects in both archery, and shotgun this year. Being the youngest competitor in Routt County, he had a lot of catching up to do. Once I got a youth sized stock to fit him a bit better, his numbers improved like crazy. He entered this weekend's competition full of excitement and with a few nerves. He's been working on his meditation and visualization skills, and it showed!!!! After a few misses he would close his eyes, take a number of deep breaths, and recenter his focus.
As you can see, he had to shoot alongside some senior kids. The best part was that most of the Junior shooter either kept up with or shot even better than their older counterparts. Of the 3 disciplines in shotgun (5 Stand, Skeet, and Trap) Charlie finished 3rd, 5th, and 3rd respectively! That was good enough to put him in 3rd place overall in the Junior division and qualify him to go to the State tournament in Colorado Springs.
He also had the opportunity to compete in archery. He forgot to take his ball cap off for his first shot at 40 yards and flubbed an arrow that only scored 1 point. He then shot a 9,9,9,7 at 40 yards to finish that target. That first arrow is still bugging him knowing that he could have finished in 4th!! At the end of the day, he took 6th overall and qualified to compete in State in Pueblo during the State Fair.
All in all a very happy and proud boy!!
